Calvin mengatakan bahwa : We have already noted that the knowledge of God ought to have the effect of planting in our hearts some seed of religion.First in order to teach us to fear and revere God;and then in order to teach us that we must seek all good Him, and that we owe Him gratitude for that good.[16] Kemudian Dowey juga mengatakan bahwa God reveals himself to man internally by a direct perception of which Calvin distinguishes two elements: the sense of divinity, and the conscience.[17]

Sesungguhnya setiap manusia telah dikaruniakan benih ilahi kepada mereka untuk mengenal Tuhan, yang walaupun hal tersebut tidak bersifat redemptif. Tetapi dari hal ini tidak ada alasan bagi manusia untuk tidak bersykur kepada Tuhan. Namun dalam kenyataannya berbeda sekali.
